PRAISE

“Jane Austen fans are guaranteed to go gaga for Jane Austen In 89 Minutes, Syrie James’s deliciously clever retelling of every single novel Jane ever published.” StageSceneLA

“Takes fun and frolic to new levels in this delicious comic summary of Austen’s six published novels … The cast takes on multiple – all equally hysterical – roles (from) Austen’s books.” Splash Magazines

"James’s wryness effectively balances the delightfully over-the-top performers, who frequently step outside their characters to offer caustic observations. The broad humor is countered by James’s deep knowledge of her subject, which gives unexpected depth to this diverting and informative enterprise." Stage Raw’s Top Ten Shows in LA!

“A lavish treat! There is something delicious about the light-heartedness of this production, its whimsy and mischievous playfulness. Roars of audience laughter coming non-stop ... A new screwball farce … [and] a loving homage to the genius of the 19th century English writer whose perceptive wit and craveable romance remain widely treasured to this day. Syrie James plays gleeful havoc with all kinds of conventions.” —Discover Hollywood Magazine

"A delicious confection. As much as it loves to bask in the glory of her major works, Jane Austen in 89 Minutes loves to poke fun and lampoon the stories and their pitfalls as well. I urge you to see this finely tuned show and there’s plenty to enjoy here, even if you’re (somehow) not familiar with Austen’s works. For fans, be prepared to bask in Austen-isms. Jane Austen in 89 Minutes is easily one of the quickest, most satisfying eighty-nine minutes out there. Go and cherish it, you're sure to have ‘a ball.’" L.A. Hidden Gems

“What fun getting lost in Austen! Outrageously funny … perfect comedic timing and emotional depth and wit. In Jane Austen in 89 Minutes, Ms. James cleverly highlights the common threads running through Austen’s novels ... Austen’s portrayal of strong, independent women who take charge of their own destinies—a radical notion for the era in which she wrote—continues to resonate with modern audiences, making James’s play a timeless celebration of Austen’s enduring influence.” Stage and Cinema
